My first word : Umm. (2.75 out of 5 stars)
I initially want to watch this movie is because of Channing Tatum *obviously*, Eddie Redmayne and Douglas Booth. Eddie Redmayne's acting in Les Miserables was good and Douglas Booth is handsome in LOL. For Channing, I watch him in Dear John only. A lot of pretty faces, interesting trailer and from the famous creators of The Matrix Trilogy but after watch it, my mind has to discard some major parts of the movie.
It is hard to understand the concept of this movie because how they tell the story was unbearable, in terms of the script. My reaction to the concept was "meh?" I'm not fully acceptable with the motive but still can watch it because of hero saved the heroine theme and fantastic graphics of the world they create. Luxurious and beautiful. For fans who likes visual effects, you will not be disappointed but for me, who likes story and effects, I feel 50:50. I like The Matrix and it should stop there but nooo... The Wachowskis still continue with another two films. This time around, I dislike the concept but have love-hate relationship with the visual effects.
My favorite scenes of this movie was every scene that Caine Wise, Channing's character, saved Jupiter and how Jupiter, the main character, met the three siblings of Abrasax; Balem (the eldest), Kalique and Titus. Jupiter met them at their own houses and it was beautiful and exotic. I like the damsel in distress thing but some parts in this movie I did not feel their chemistry. It feels like how easy Jupiter loves Caine at the earliest but I like how Caine's friend, Stinger convince Caine that he loves her unconditionally in the scene where Jupiter in Balem's territory. Which means Caine have to save Jupiter... again. *yeay* Oh, the acting in this film is bearable but I feel Eddie's acting was weird. He have to speak a different accent as he is an alien but *ergh*. I dislike the ending. Simple but not memorable. Again, love-hate relationship.
Overall, Jupiter Ascending is a movie that have a ridiculous concept but being saved by the visual effects. And maybe Channing's appearance. Idk why I like his mustache and goatee beard. *eye rolls please*
