When I'm trying.. *trying okay :)*.. to write this book review, I thought too many times how to write this review without lying myself to be someone else because this is my first book review and I will not stop write these reviews even my lazy mood come *I hope so*. I've read too many reviews and trying to write my review without referring to them was hard. I think many people inspire to write these book reviews because the book itself so I'm trying to write it in my own words. Okay. :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Heartwrenching. heart + wrenching; causing great sadness; heartbreaking.
Layken's father died suddenly, leaving her to gather every ounce of strength to be a pillar for her family, in order to prevent their world from falling apart. Now her life is taking another unexpected turn...
Layken's mother gets a job which leads to an unwanted move across the country. However, a new home means new neighbours... and Layken's new neighbour is the very attractive Will Cooper.
Will has an intriguing passion for slam poetry, and a matching passion for life. The two feel an irresistible attraction but are rocked to the core when a shocking revelation brings their romance to a screeching halt. Layken and Will must find a way to fight the forces that threaten to tear them apart...or learn to live without each other.
Slammed. That word was a torture to me when I read this book. How it slammed me, affected me, how that feeling make your heart wrenched after reading a few chapters. I have high hopes reading this book because this book recommended by one of my favorite book reviewers, Aestas Book Blog and her review about this book was lovely. The story was simple. A story about a girl trying to move on with her life after her father's devastated death. She move to Michigan with her family because their family's fortune. She have to pick up the pieces but however, her black and white life changes after she met her neighbour. A breathtaking love story but a twist. A really BIG twist and it happens unexpectedly like the title of the book. The book itself teach us “To put the emphasis On life .”
Slammed was unique because Colleen Hoover introduce me slam poetry, The Avett Brothers and herself. I like how the story changes, the characters grows particularly Layken on facing life and death and lyrics from The Avett Brothers was put in the book. Each lyric represent each chapters in the book. Okay, slam poetry. What is slam poetry? I know poetry comes from writing and represent something in your life or others but slam poetry, its like a performance of poetry. How Will perform his poem... breathtaking and I have to thank Colleen for her writing. She writes the poems so beautiful, with the bold and italic lines. How each poems of Will perform represents his life. :'( If anyone wants to search slam poetry, YouTube has many videos on slam poetry. Check it out. :)
I like reading books while listening english songs. ♪♫ Songs I've picked that resemble Slammed are Terrible Love by The National & Birdy and This Love by Taylor Swift. Not totally a Terrible Love for Will and Layken but how their love story taken its toll can represent this song. When I write this review, I stumbled upon This Love lyric and these lyric symbolize Will and Layken's love story. Their love can be a good thing or lead to broken hearts.
This love is good
This love is bad
This love is a life back from the dead
These hands had to let it go free
And this love came back to me
Mostly pictures from this review comes from quotes of this book. These quotes are one of my favorites, especially from Will's poem. Actually, this is the second time I read Slammed. I read this again because my ample time to read all Colleen Hoover's books. Right now, she has write 8 books and I've read 3 so 5 books to go! ^__^ I want to recommend this book to everybody especially to my friend, Eqa for motivate me in creating book reviews. I want create book reviews but I'm too lazy to write. However, I like create and edit collages that represent book that I've read and hence, trying to come up a review that I can also put my not-so-beautiful quotes pictures.
End note: Just live your life to the fullest. Each memorable part in your life is priceless. “Don't take life too seriously. Punch it in the face when it needs a good hit. Laugh at it.” ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
I like imagine the characters as models, actors, actresses and singers so I choose Ian Harding as Will Cooper and Crystal Reed as Layken Cohen. Everyone has their own choices and so, this is mine. *smile widely*
