Movie Review: Say "I Love You" (2014)

Genre: Contemporary, Romance, School

Release Date: 12 July 2014

Main Casts: Haruna Kawaguchi, Sota Fukushi

Rating: MyDramaList 7.3

My first word : So-so (3.5 of 5 stars)

High school romance is one of my favorite types in Japanese movies. Great example: Koizora Sky of Love I stumble upon this movie details last year and I know the heroine but didn't have the mood to watch it. After I follow Koalas Playground recap of this hero's drama and he make a good impression on me so I watched it last week. The movie was lukewarm but still can enjoyed it.

Say "I Love You" has the meaning to be an enjoyable movie but it failed to capture attention on the story progress and characters. Especially main characters development. The story is simple as cliche. Kimi Ni Todoke has covered that topic but the movie has its way to address it. Which is a good thing. However, main leads' character are inconsistent. Haruna as Mei Tachibana sometimes can be friendly, sometimes she just ignore everybody. Maybe Haruna's character is like that because she is the main topic of this movie. For Sota, I don't like his character, Yamato. He sometimes the sweet boyfriend ever, and then, the jealous bf and lastly, completely ignored his girlfriend. Kinds frustrated with him. I feel like the minor characters more interesting than the main ones. Haruna and Sota, feels too bored with inconsistent changes.

The chemistry was okay. It was there and I feel they are suitable together because they don't want to express themselves their insecurities after they become an old couple. Maybe, you shouldn't start your relationship with a kiss. *just kidding* So, there are many misunderstandings between both of them but they can overcome it with their friends who taking the role of getting back together. I want some maturity and in the end, Haruna did get it but it's too late to make me love the movie. However, this movie got higher points from Jupiter Ascending because the plot is straightforward, high school theme and they use Happily as their theme song. I'm an One Direction fan. ^_^ Rarely we get an English theme song for Asian movies.

Overall, Say "I Love You" is a movie that can attract high school and Sota Fukushi fans, same as me but will get bored with a plot that has no climax. Still, the chemistry is there and so, please watch this movie. Sorry for the harsh review..
